Chappati Indian flat bread is simple to make and can be eaten with many things like curries and why not try it and make it fresh.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water, use more if needed
  • Extra flour for rolling

Directions:

  • In a bowl mix the flour and the salt.
  • Slowly stir in oil and water, and then knead until firm and elastic.
  • Cover the dough and leave it to rest for 30 minutes.
  • Divide the though into eight balls, and roll each ball on a lightly floured surface into a circle with a rolling pin.
  • Heat a griddle or a frying pan over medium-high heat.
  • Cook the chapatti on both sides pressing down gently with a kitchen towel until golden brown.
  • If desired, sprinkle with butter before serving.
