Directions:

Caramel:

In a  saucepan combine sugar and water, heat until sugar is dissolved over medium heat.

Make sure not to walk away or the sugar will burn quickly. Remove from heat once you have amber color.

Pour caramel over bottom of  8 or 9 inch 20cm-23cm cake pan, tilting carefully to coat evenly. Let cool.

Creme:

In an electric mixer add all ingredients and mix until well combined.

Add the mix on top of the cold  caramel.

Cake:

Preheat oven to 350˚F (180˚C ).

Beat eggs on medium speed with an electric mixer, sugar and vanilla, until well combined. Add the oil.

Add flour and baking powder.

Add water and beat until all blended

Pour the batter on top of sugar and creme caramel mix evenly.

Place cake pan into a large baking dish and pour boiling water into pan to reach halfway up side.

Bake in water bath for 1 hour, or until set.

Let cool, outside for an hour, then refrigerate until set for at least 4 hours, preferably over night.

Before serving  place cake pan in a hot water bath for 1 minutes, to liquefy caramel on the bottom, then turn the cake pan upside down in a serving plate.

Enjoy serving and most of all eating it.

It turned out nice, but the only thing I found was there was no caramel on it just the creme. Even when I was making the caramel it did not turn brown, I also left it cook a bit longer as it wasn’t changing colour, any advice?

    Salaam Hana,

Next time add one more cup of sugar to the caramel, increase the heat until it is nice and golden, move the pan from side to side.

    Enjoy!

    salam sis,

When i am adding the caremel do i wait untill it hardens or just untill it cools down?

  13. mysomalifood says:

    Salaam Marian,
After you finish cooking the caramel pour in the baking pan, while you are preparing the custard the caramel will harden and that is fine just pour the custard over the caramel.
Let me know how it goes Insha Allah.
