Adriyad : Sweet Vermicelli

This is a sweet vermicelli dish, it is fried with oil to get a nice brown color, spices are added to give a nice fragrant aroma. This could a side dish as a dessert or it could be eaten with rice.

Ingredients:

  • 200g/7 oz fine vermicelli, broken into half
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cardamom pods cracked
  • 3 cloves
  • ¼ cup sugar or to taste
  • 4 table spoons ghee/oil
  • 2 ½ cups of water

Directions:

  • Heat the ghee or oil and the spices in a skillet or a pan over medium heat.
  • Add the vermicelli and fry until it is golden, stirring with an wooden spoon.
  • In another pan boil water and the sugar.
  • Slowly add the boiled water to the vermicelli and cook about
    10 minutes, until liquid evaporates and the vermicelli is cooked.
  • Put the vermicelli in bowl and refrigerate.
  • Serve cold or warm.

  • This reminds me of a recipe for rice pudding exept with rice noodles instead.
    I just made something similar but used jasmine rice instead for a sweet rice dish!

      After you fry in the butter uncooked, then you add the water and that will cook it.
