Shaah Adays: Somali spiced tea with milk

Somali tea is usually prepared with spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, black pepper etc. there is nothing better than drinking fragrant tea with milk. It is easy to prepare and the taste is amazing.

Ingredients:

  • 5 cloves
  • 2 cinnamon stick, broken in half
  • 4 whole black pepper
  • 10 cardamom pods
  • 4 tea bags or two tablespoons loose black tea
  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 cups of milk
  • Sugar to taste

Directions:

  • With a mortar and pestle, lightly crush all the spices.
  • In a sauce pan combine the water, milk, sugar and all the spices, and bring to a boil on a medium heat.
  • Add the tea and steep on a low heat for 5 – 10 minutes. (you can remove the tea bags anytime, for a lighter, milder tea )
  • Drain on strainer and serve in a cup
